Story #10: “Where can I socialize now that I quit tobacco without visiting the DTUA?”

Story #10: “Since I quit tobacco, I don’t visit the designated tobacco use area (DTUA) anymore to avoid the temptation. I used to meet new people, hang with my buddies and get face time with leadership there. Where can I socialize and network (more informally) now that I quit tobacco, without visiting a DTUA?”

Plan:

  • Head to the fitness center on your installation. Workout classes and gym facilities are a great place to bump into buddies and leaders in your Service. When your schedule allows, try a new workout class and get your body moving while also getting some informal face time too!
  • Socialize at your on-post dining facility. Dine amongst peers in a low stress setting. Sometimes the best way to chat and get to know people is during chow time!
  • Engage in unit/squadron or base activities outside of work hours. Join a hike or outdoor challenge, get involved in an on-base sports team or go to a shared meal. All these activities will not only boost your health but they’ll also create camaraderie and encourage connections with those around you! You can also check out family support organizations on base that may host social functions for Service members and their dependents.
